Chances are you already know a lot about hot tech startups like Twitter and Facebook. But what about Jajah, an inexpensive alternative to the traditional phone company? So far, 15 million people use its service. Or Scribd, an online literary exchange that's drawing more than 50 million readers per month. BusinessWeek and market researcher YouNoodle teamed up to identify 50 tech startups flying under the radar.
The List includes young companies like Cloudera, Project Better Place, and Scribd that are poised for growth.
Bisciglia's eight-month-old Cloudera teaches companies how to "compete at Google scale." Cloudera sells technical support for open-source software called Hadoop, which analyzes huge amounts of data much faster than traditional computers by distributing the work across hundreds of machines. For companies in fields that routinely require heavy number-crunching like biotech, online advertising, and finance, Cloudera's service could help find opportunities that might not be apparent using traditional computing methods.
There are plenty of young companies just like Cloudera. That's why BusinessWeek and market researcher YouNoodle have teamed up to identify 50 promising startup companies flying below the radar in 2009. You won't find Twitter or Facebook on this list. Instead, you'll discover new tech companies from the U.S., China, India, Israel, and Russia that are attracting some early buzz. Most of these fledgling companies started in 2005 and later, and all are poised to grow beyond their regional or niche-market origins.

Dear hubby,
I'm writing you this letter to tell you that I'm leaving you forever.. I've been a good woman to you for 7 years & I have nothing to show for it.
These last 2 weeks have been hell.
Your boss called to tell me that you quit your job today & that was the last straw. Last week, you came home & didn't even notice I had a new haircut, had cooked your favorite meal & even wore a brand new pair of silk dress. You ate in 2 minutes, & went straight to sleep after watching all of your games. You don't tell me you love me anymore; you don't want anything that connects us as husband & wife. Either, you are cheating on me or you don't love me anymore; whatever the case, I'm gone.
Your EX-Wife P.S.: Don't try to find me. Your BROTHER & I are moving away to West Virginia together! Have a great life!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Ex-Wife Nothing has made my day more than receiving your letter.
It's true you & I have been married for 7 years, although a good woman is a far cry from what you've been. I watch my games so much because they drown out your constant whining & griping. Too bad that doesn't work. I DID notice when you got a hair cut last week, but the 1st thing that came to mind was 'You look just like a boy!' Since my mother raised me not to say anything if you can't say something nice, I didn't comment. And when you cooked my favorite meal, you must have gotten me confused with MY BROTHER, because I stopped eating pork 7 years ago. About those new silk dress: I turned away from you because the $49.99 price tag was still on them, & I prayed it was a coincidence that my brother had just borrowed $50 from me that morning.
After all of this, I still loved you & felt we could work it out. So when I hit the lotto for 10 million dollars, I quit my job & bought us 2 tickets to Jamaica . But when I got home you were gone. Everything happens for a reason, I guess.
I hope you have the fulfilling life you always wanted. My lawyer said that the letter you wrote ensures you won't get a dime from me.
So take care.
Signed/- Your Ex-Husband,
Rich As Hell & Free!
P.S.: I don't know if I ever told you this, but my brother Carl was born as Carla(woman).........I hope that's not a problem.

In the days when you couldn't count on a public toilet facility, an English woman was planning a trip to India . She was registered to stay in a small guest house owned by the local Schoolmaster.
She was concerned as to whether the guest house contained a WC.
In England , a bathroom is commonly called a WC which stands for 'Water Closet'.
She wrote to the schoolmaster inquiring of the facilities about the WC.
The school master, not fluent in English, asked the local priest if he knew the meaning of WC. Together they pondered possible meanings of the letters and concluded that the lady wanted to know if there was a ' Wayside Church ' nears the house . . . a bathroom never entered their minds.
So the schoolmaster wrote the following reply:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Madam,
I take great pleasure in informing you that the WC is located 9 miles from the house.
It is located in the middle of a grove of pine trees, surrounded by lovely grounds. It is capable of holding 229people and is open on Sundays and Thursdays.
As there are many people expected in the summer months, I suggest you arrive early. There is, however, plenty of standing room.
This is an unfortunate situation especially if you are in the habit of going regularly.
It may be of some interest to you that my daughter was married in the WC, as it was there, that she met her husband. It was a wonderful event.
There were 10 people in every seat. It was wonderful to see the expressions on their faces. We can take photos in different angle.
My wife, sadly, has been ill and unable to go recently. It has been almost a year since she went last, which pains her greatly.
You will be pleased to know that many people bring their lunch and make a day of it. Others prefer to wait till the last minute and arrive just in time. I would recommend your ladyship plan to go on a Thursday as there is an organ accompaniment. The acoustics are excellent and even the most delicate sounds can be heard everywhere.
The newest addition is a bell which rings every time a person enters.
We are holding a bazaar to provide plush seats for all, since many feel it is long needed.
I look forward to escorting you there myself and seating you in a place where you can be seen by all.
With deepest regards,
The Schoolmaster

Asserting their supremacy in the sport, India trounced Thailand 28-14 to clinch the inaugural women's kabaddi gold medal in the Asian Games in Guangzhou on Friday.
India took control of the game very early with aggressive tackling and dismissed the entire Thai team for a two-point bonus before taking a commanding 17-7 lead at the halfway stage of the one-sided final at the Nansha Gymnasium.
National coach Balwan Singh termed the triumph in the first appearance at the Games as a "good team effort".
"We are proud to have won the gold for the country in a tough competition," he said.
"Our defense was very good. We had studied the rival's game. They were very fast but could not wriggle out of our grasp when making raids into our territory," he said.
Manager Kumar Vijay said the team did not want to take things easy after the nerve-wrecking one-point semi-final victory over Iran.
"Though we were confident of winning the gold, we did not want to take any chances after the close semi-final against Iran on Thursday (which India won by one point)," said Vijay.
"The score may show it was an easy victory but the Thai girls really put up a good resistance," he said.
After conceding a massive first-half lead, the Thai girls tried to make a comeback but the Indians did not allow it to happen with rock-solid defense and better tactical acumen.
The winners added 11 more points to their tally in the second half while keeping their rivals down to just seven to emerge creditable victors.
The slightly built but nimble-footed Thai girls, trained by Indian Ramesh Bhendigiri, were no match for the more powerful raids of India's top attackers Mamatha and Deepika Joseph who were well supported by Tejeswani, Pooja and Manisha.
The Thais were also handicapped by the ankle injury sustained by their top raider and captain Alisa Limsamran in an earlier match.
Indian assistant coach Sunil Dabas said Thursday close shave against Iran was the perfect wake up call for the girls.
"They were determined to win after being really shaken up by Iran. It turned out to be blessing in disguise and was a well-timed wake up call," he said.
Snehal Salunkhe said the Indian girls had played a lot of practice matches with Thailand and the gold was a "dream come true".
"We went out relaxed as we have played practice matches with the Thai team before. They had no weaknesses and played well against Iran and beat them (in league). We are taller, stronger while the Thai team is young," she said.
"Only in my dreams had I thought we could win gold but now it has come true," she added.

U.S. President Barack Obama was accidentally elbowed in the face while playing basketball on Friday and received 12 stitches to his lip, the White House said.
Obama, a keen basketball player, had been playing with friends and family in a 10-person game at Fort McNair, a U.S. military post in Washington.
"After being inadvertently hit with an opposing player's elbow in the lip ... the president received 12 stitches today, administered by the White House Medical Unit," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said in a statement.
The president was given a local anesthetic while receiving the stitches, Gibbs said.
Obama was later spotted by reporters through an upstairs White House window holding what appeared to be a compress against his mouth, while the White House Christmas tree was being delivered outside.

For the first time in India, a BPO is going to be set up in a prison which will be run by educated prisoners. Cherlapalli Central Jail in Hyderabad is all set to become the first jail in the country to feature a BPO in its jail premises. Jail authorities already had a deal with private IT Solution Company and soon this BPO project will be initiated. A well known IT firm Radiant Info Systems has signed the deal with jail authorities to set up a BPO exclusively for prisoners.
Jail officials have confirmed that they would consider only committed and qualified prisoners for this project. They said they would consider all degree holders and shortlist some of the highly qualified and dedicated prisoners for this project. The selected candidates then have to undergo a training session before they can take charge in BPO. Many law experts expressed their satisfaction regarding this positive move from Andhra Pradesh jail authorities.
On the other hand, Radiant Info Systems has invested quite a sum of amount in this project. They would be assigning a team of experts to train the selected convicts who will work in BPO. Initially the job of these selected prisoners in BPO is to do some data entry work for some banks. Due to the strict rules, prisoners are not allowed to use phones, which mean they cannot speak with people. So Jail authorities will confine this BPO project only to data entry works and other IT related projects.
Unlike the normal conditions, these convicts will work in all together a different working condition at Jail. The BPO will be a closed unit and it will remain in the Cherlapalli Central Jail premises. The BPO initially will be run on three shifts in a day. The prisoner will be taken to BPO from his cell and will send back to his cell once the shift time completes. Jail authorities has taken enough precautions to prevent any unwanted incident happened during this project.
"The idea is to ensure that on being released, the prisoners find it easy to get absorbed in the mainstream. Prisoners often find getting suitable employment post release a tough task. So, this is an attempt to ensure that their employers know them well in advance," TOI quoted C.N. Gopinatha Reddy, director general of Prisons A.P as saying.
@Source
What do you think.. IS it a very important step and very good step taken by the jail authorities....

A doctor by profession, Karthik Adapa gave up scholarships to Harvard and Cambridge to join the Indian Administrative Services.
Thinking beyond marks, appreciating the value of each subject and teaching these very subjects to students during his preparation helped him ace the exam.
Now stationed at Ranikhet, a small town in Uttarakhand, Karthik (who was ranked first in the IAS exam of 2008) aspires to make a difference by working at the grassroots...
Why did you opt for the IAS?
It offers a tremendous opportunity for leadership and to work at the grassroots level. For example, I now work in a small town with a population of around 20,000. It is such a backward region that even a little work we do has a tremendous impact on the people here. You also get a chance to impact people's lives across a variety of domains such as health, education, water, sanitation, roads and electricity. In fact, as a topper, I was given the option to go to my hometown in Khammam, Andhra Pradesh but I chose Ranikhet as it's a much more backward place and that's the kind of place I wanted to contribute to.
Medicine is considered a noble profession. What prompted you to move out of it?
I enjoyed being a doctor and in fact, continue to be a doctor even now. In my capacity as an administrator, I organise health camps, where I also serve as a doctor. But what I realised is that as a doctor, the canvas you get to paint on is very small. Health is the only field you can work in as a doctor.
Tell us about life as a student...
I was always a good student, which helped me secure admission to a national medical college. I got a scholarship for a postgraduation at both Harvard and Cambridge. I also got a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation scholarship for a PhD in Molecular Medicine at Harvard and the Jawaharlal Nehru [ Images ] Memorial Trust Commonwealth Shared Scholarship for my PhD in Cambridge. But I opted for the IAS. In two earlier attempts, I also got through the Indian Police Services, but I let it pass, too.
Three attempts? It sounds taxing! How did you prepare?
I enjoyed the process. I wish I had to give ten attempts so I could study for ten years! You actually grow a lot in the process; the reading is voracious. I look upon it as a way of life and not much has changed since those times for me. I still read a lot, keep abreast of what's happening in the world, in the country, in my state.
Which subjects did you chose during the mains and why?
Zoology and Psychology. Having done medicine, which is Advanced Biology, I wanted to go back to my basics and study Zoology, which is Basic Biology. I also wanted to study one subject that was different and would tell me something I enjoy in life and Psychology fitted the bill well. I worked really hard in Psychology. Though I didn't score too well, it gave me new perspectives to see my life events. It brings about a holistic change in your personality, which happens as long as you don't study merely for marks but internalise the subject. You must appreciate the basics of the subject and study its varied topics.

From a teledensity (number of phones in use for every 100 individuals) of just 1.4 per cent in 1995, India today has reached a teledensity of over 50 per cent, with big cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, etc going up to 130-140 per cent, same as in Europe and North America.
These facts were shared by Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Sachin Pilot at a media briefing in Toronto on March 31.
"But in rural India the teledensity is still 18 to 20 per cent," Pilot said. "Within the next three years, we will connect every village in India with high-speed broadband access."
The government has decided to connect "tribal areas, border areas, north-eastern parts of our country, Kashmir valley, the sparsely populated areas; we are going to put up 11,000 towers to improve communication facilities," he said.
"It is important that every Indian living even in far off areas has a right to be equal partner in the IT revolution," Pilot said. "This revolution must not be limited to Delhi, Mumbai, etc. It has to be available all over the country -- the infrastructure, resources, facilities at cheapest possible rates and best quality -- and that's where the government comes in."
Pilot also wants to revolutionize Indian post offices by incorporating services like train and bus tickets bookings, e-bill payments, passport renewals, etc, so that even the rural ones play a broader role and the institution becomes profitable.
